Licences - what you need to know
WHAT BIKE CAN I RIDE ON A FULL CAR LICENCE?
Many people don’t even realise this is a possibility! Category B – if you passed your test before 1 January 1997, you CAN ride a motor tricycle (3 wheeler bike) on your car licence. Have a look on the back of your photo ID and see if you have B entitlement.
We have a great range of Piaggio MP3‘s that offer a great way to beat the commuter traffic whilst also offering more comfort to anyone not necessarily wanting to opt for a 2 wheel bike or to train for a motorcycle licence.
Who can learn to ride?
Anyone who is 17 years old or above as long as they have successfully completed a CBT training course. CBT stands for compulsory basic training. It is not a test – there are no formal exams. It’s simply a day training course and perfect for anyone who has never never ridden a motorcycle/scooter before.
There is an exception:
If you have passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001, you are able to ride a 50cc scooter without attending a CBT course but will be restricted to 30 mph.
For anything bigger than a 50cc e.g a 125cc, a CBT is required.
Head to our CBT page for more details.
Training for your full licence
Training for your full licence
A full licence will allow you to choose from a bigger pool of bikes to buy from in terms of size and engine power. Again, depending on your riding needs, ability and previous levels of experience, you can opt for a 3 day, 4 day or 5 day course.
Full licence courses can be done as standard – on a 125cc bike (which will give you a licence to ride bikes up to 33bhp) or DAS (Direct Access Students) – on a 500cc bike (ride what you like, unrestricted).
Head to our full licence page for more details.
